I wonder if European kids see Emirates planes and think “Is the entire football team onboard?”

I used to have a Sharp TV. In 1985.

I like the end, where they set it down and the gear sinks under the weight of the plane. That’s about 814,000 pounds empty. MTOW is 1.2 million pounds. Yeah, that’s a BFP.

Until you see one in person it’s hard to describe how huge this plane is in real life. It looks like it shouldn’t even be able to fly.

Emirates landing gear needs to be replaced due to years of hard-parking.

I was fortunate to photograph this one (VH-OQJ) arriving at DFW from Sydney back in 2015. You can always tell when something is going to happen because the hardcore plane spotters suddenly arrive in the parking lot. They shoot the pictures of the one plane, then get back in their cars and leave.
It’s a very big plane, but I’m not sure it’s a very attractive one. And I doubt it will have a 50-year career like the 747.

I will not disagree that it is an ugly plane. Looks like a whale with wings IMO.

I have never been a fan of the Airbus design aesthetic (Boeing makes prettier planes), though I’m warming to the A350. I like the raccoon face.

I heard that about 5 years ago, Sharp became a licensed name only (like Polaroid). That is, the brand is still out there, it’s just not the same thing anymore — just a Chinese marketing tool. Shame, because in the earlier days of flat panels, the Sharp Aquos sets were amazing.
(Either way, I was just joking about how obnoxious European soccer sponsorships are...)
